You can't guarantee that the version WowMatrix is grabbing from Curse of WoWi is actually the most up-to-date and not just a random fan upload. And you certainly can't guarantee that it's a safe version, because in reality anyone has access to upload at sites like WoWi and Curse. I use the WowAceUpdater and it works well for me. It may only cover addons hosted at WowAce, but that guarantees that I've got the latest, safest, official version of every addon it updates, given how regulated WowAce is.
